Who He Really Is.....

Before embarking on an academic career, Steve was a California winemaker (B.S. Enology, University of California - Davis).

After entering emeritus status at the end of 1999, he returned to California, where he and his wife, Mary, have planted a small vineyard (Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris grapes). That's where you can find them when Steve isn't consulting on grant applications - planning to make their label, 'Prodigal Wines,' something more than just a pipe dream.
