The following are written comments about the workshop (on file):

This course was outstanding. The consultant was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Specifically, I found the proposal template useful (organization, presentation of information, attention to clarity). The concepts of proposal “first-impression”, compelling argument, and pre-submission review were quite valuable. In fact, following completion of the draft, I used the review-forward strategy to complement the review provided by the consultant.
I found this Workshop to be extremely helpful! The detailed instructions in the workbook gave me a template that made it easier to get the first draft on paper. They also gave me occasion to think about the various elements of a proposal in a critical way, and consider how they relate to each other. After reading the workbook and attending the meeting at which we reviewed each others’ pre-proposals, I finally felt like I understood how to craft workable Specific Aims. [The consultant] has been a valuable resource. He is obviously quite knowledgeable with respect to obtaining funding, and he is generous with his advice and feedback. The personalized consultation allowed me to work through issues specific to my application in a way that allowed me to stay on track and complete the proposal. As a new faculty member, access to an experienced grant writer has been invaluable. I also attribute my success in completing the proposal on schedule to the consequence that would have been associated with not completing it. Thank you for the opportunity to obtain this specialized training.
This was an excellent Workshop. [The consultant] is remarkably focused, hard working, and enthusiastic. He was full of ideas for improving my draft, I am certain that the Workshop will improve every grant application I make in the future.
This was a great workshop and should be mandatory for each junior faculty. I know that my final application was much more competitive than the first draft I wrote before participating in this workshop. It helped tremendously to add the right words and sentences at the right place in the application.
[The consultant’s] comments were immensely helpful, particularly for the specific aims and significance sections of the grant. His comments helped refine the text of the grant and made it much more readable. This would be a helpful exercise for other young investigators.
