What People Are Saying

I joined your proposal writing workshop last year.  I just want to give you some feedback on how things have turned out; I received two grants.  I need to say that I have benefited greatly from your writing seminar.  It forever changed the way I am writing a proposal, in a right way, and I enjoy the change. I have been following your instruction in proposal writing since, although sometimes I still feel it is hard to get away from my old writing habit. The effect is obvious, people who read my proposals all have the impression of clarity and convincing argument in the proposal. I hope others who took your seminar have the same experience.

I submitted my NIH proposal this morning through Grants.gov.   Working with you has been a real positive learning experience for me in proposal writing.   We have produced an infinitely better resubmission proposal than what I submitted initially.   And I actually submitted two days early!  Anyway, thanks so much for all your guidance.

I have just learned that a proposal I submitted to the USDA in February this year was ranked “Outstanding” by the panel, and that it will be recommended for funding in full (few dollars less than $400,000 for 4 years; the maximum allowed by the Plant Biochemistry Panel). More than 100 investigators submitted pre-proposals for this competition. Of those, 80 investigators were invited to submit full proposals, and only 11 proposals will be funded. The skills I acquired during the Grant Writers' Workshop, helped a great deal in preparation of this proposal, and I would like to thank you again for supporting my participation in (this) workshop.

I just wanted to write you a quick note to let you know that I just received notice on my R01 grant application that I am in the 1.9 percentile and will be funded. I am writing to both of you because a critical point for me was the Grant Writers' workshop that I attended at the NIH (in January of 2005). Thank you for allowing me to participate. My success is part of your mission to support young/minority faculty, and I am truly grateful for your support.

I just received the priority score for the A2 (third & final) submission of my main R01 entitled, P450 Eicosanoids Reduce Inflammation and Promote Recovery after Brain Injury . It's been a long haul (over three years) getting this funded, and it may just finally happen this Council cycle. Whatever the outcome, I want to take this opportunity to let each of you know how much I appreciate your encouragement and support during this difficult period. Each of you has, in some way, a share in this project. I look forward to many more fruitful collaborations and rewarding interactions with you in the coming years.

GUESS WHAT…I received an email from the program officer at NSF that my proposal would be recommended for funding!!!! I am still awaiting an official award letter. In case you may not remember who I am, you conducted a workshop here at Mississippi State University in January 2006. I was in that workshop. …I would like to thank you again for your wonderful guidance through the preparation of this proposal. I am going to the Vice President of research and recommend that [this] university implements a system such as yours to increase the success rate of funded proposals.

Just a quick note to let you know that I spoke with my program officer, who said that what came across loud and clear from the reviewers of my grant was the outstanding “grantsmanship” – everything was very clear to them, they were convinced of the importance of the study, etc. I give you the credit for that!

I am very please to tell you that I got a score of 125 on my K99 proposal. Whether this is good enough for actual funding this year won't be clear until later. But I can't imagine getting this score without the grant writing workshop and all the advice you gave me along the way. THANK YOU!

I just wanted to update you on my R01 grant application, which I submitted with your support on July 1st. As you might remember, my previous score was 256 (~60 percentile). I am happy to report that your thoughtful comments and suggestions helped significantly to push this application this time into the funding range-even during these hard times. Today the score was posted in NIH ERA, and I received a score of 126 (7th percentile). I wanted to thank you again and will definitely spread the word of the huge support of your organization in improving grant applications.

Thanks for your thorough critique and useful comments. I have found your mentorship to be incredibly helpful and, as a result, I am much more optimistic about the possibility of my proposal being funded.

Just wanted to let you know that the score (note ‘score', not triage) for the second submission of my NIH grant is 168, and the percentile is 15.3. The program office was VERY reassuring about the award, though the council has not met. In other words, WE DID IT!! After all this time, I'm finally NIH funded. For me, life as I know it changes and I can finally move forward. Thanks for all your help in the process. Hopefully I will retain it all and get another one next year!

Thought you might like to know that I got a very good score on my R01. 134 and 11.1 percentile. I am so relieved! I really appreciate all the help. You and the course were definitely instrumental in the grants success

I attended the in depth workshop at Oklahoma State . Just wanted to say that the training has resulted in a major paradigm shift for me. As I am working on another grant, I realize that I have internalized the structure and I now feel confident in using the grant genre. Thanks

Many thanks for your feedback on my pre-workshop revisions. Both the workshop and the feedback have produced many “ah-ha” moments for me—ones that would have never occurred without honest, expert advise. Thanks!
